Dog Bed for Dogs with Dermatitis and Sensitive Skin

Dogs with dermatitis or sensitive skin spend many hours a day in direct contact with their bed: skin, paws and nose rest on the fabric and the foam. Choosing materials that have been tested for harmful substances is one simple thing you can control. This page explains how Kumo and the Jeff&Co Orthopedic Mattress are made, which certifications they have, and what those certifications do and do not mean.

Why Kumo suits dogs prone to dermatitis

  • Fabrics certified OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100: tested for over 1,000 substances that can be harmful and designed for prolonged skin contact.
  • CertiPUR® certified foam: made without heavy metals or phthalates and tested for low emissions (VOC), so there is less chemical exposure when your dog rests with its nose on the surface.
  • Removable, machine-washable cover: easy to wash regularly (cold wash recommended), with spare covers available so you can swap while one is in the wash.
  • Tightly woven fabric: hair does not get trapped in the weave and can be brushed away day to day.
  • Raised wooden base: keeps the mattress off the floor.

What the certifications mean, and what they do not

The certifications show that the materials were tested against limits for harmful substances. They do not mean a product contains no chemicals at all, and a bed does not treat dermatitis, which can have many causes (allergies, parasites, infections and more). If your dog has skin problems, talk to your vet. A bed made with tested materials simply avoids adding one more possible irritant to the places where your dog spends most of its day.

Kumo and the Orthopedic Mattress: full specifications

Jeff&Co designs orthopedic dog beds made in Italy. The range has three products:

  • Kumo: a low, Japanese-style orthopedic dog bed. A wooden base (panel 3 cm thick, on short feet that keep the mattress off the floor) with an orthopedic memory foam mattress and a removable cover. Base finishes: Tobacco (dark brown) or Ivory (light, whitewashed). Mattress fabric: Taupe.
  • Orthopedic Mattress: the same mattress, sold on its own (Taupe).
  • Additional cover: spare removable covers in sizes S, M and L (Taupe).

Mattress construction

Multi-layer orthopedic structure: a supportive foam base topped with high-density memory foam (40 kg/m³), CertiPUR® certified. Total thickness is 10 to 13 cm depending on size. It spreads weight evenly, relieves pressure on joints such as hips and elbows and supports natural spinal alignment, for puppies, adult and senior dogs.

Cover fabric

Removable cover in a tightly woven technical fabric, OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified. It is tested for over 105,000 abrasion cycles, pilling resistance grade 4–5, colour fastness grade 4–5, bursting strength over 700 kPa and seam stability of 1 mm. The cover opens with a zip on the underside, and velcro strips on the base keep the mattress in place. Recycled fabrics are certified under the Global Recycled Standard (GRS).

Care

Remove the cover and machine wash it (cold wash recommended), then air dry. Hair does not get trapped in the weave, so it can be brushed away day to day.

Made in Italy

Each bed is produced in Italy by manufacturers specialised in premium bedding, and the wooden structures are made in Italy with local manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kumo a good bed for a dog with dermatitis?

Kumo is made with OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified fabrics and CertiPUR® certified foam, tested for harmful substances and low in emissions. This makes it a suitable choice for dogs with sensitive skin or prone to dermatitis. It is not a treatment: follow your vet’s advice for the skin condition itself.

Does “certified” mean there are no chemicals at all?

No. Certifications show that the materials were tested against limits for harmful substances and low emissions. They do not mean a product contains no chemicals.

Are both the foam and the cover certified?

Yes. The orthopedic foam and the cover fabric are certified, as explained on our certifications page.

How do I keep the bed clean?

Remove the cover and machine wash it (cold wash recommended), then air dry. The cover opens with a zip on the underside. Spare covers are sold separately so you can swap while one is in the wash.

Does the cover trap dog hair?

The tightly woven fabric is designed so that hair does not get trapped in the weave. It can be brushed away day to day.

Which size should I choose?

Size S is for dogs up to about 15 kg, size M up to about 30 kg and size L from about 30 kg. Choose the size that lets your dog lie fully stretched out; all dimensions are listed above.

What colours and finishes are available?

Kumo comes with a Tobacco (dark brown) or Ivory (light, whitewashed) base and a Taupe mattress fabric.

Where is Kumo made?

Kumo is produced in Italy by manufacturers specialised in premium bedding, with wooden structures made in Italy by local manufacturers.

Can I buy only the mattress or only a spare cover?

Yes. The Orthopedic Mattress is sold on its own, and additional covers are available in sizes S, M and L.
